Digital Asset Tracing
Digital asset tracing is the process of locating concealed, transferred, or misappropriated digital assets — cryptocurrency, tokens, and on-chain holdings — and linking them to the individuals who ultimately control them.
What is digital asset tracing?
Digital asset tracing combines on-chain analysis with off-chain intelligence to locate assets that have been hidden, transferred, or dissipated. The objective is to determine where the assets currently sit and who benefits from them — even when registered to third parties or shell entities.
How we help
- 01Locating concealed wallets and exchange accounts
- 02Tracing asset transfers across blockchains and bridges
- 03Identifying beneficial owners behind wallet clusters
- 04Linking on-chain activity to real-world entities
- 05Evidence for civil and criminal proceedings
What can realistically be done
Tracing can locate digital assets across blockchains, identify the wallets and exchanges where they currently sit, and map the network of addresses connected to the target entity. Where assets are held at a regulated exchange, lawful disclosure can identify the account holder. Where assets are in self-custody, HUMINT is needed to link the wallet to a person. Tracing can also establish that assets have been dissipated or cashed out — which, while not enabling direct recovery, supports fraud claims and damages arguments in litigation.
Evidence required
The stronger the evidence package, the more precise the investigation. Gather what you can before contacting us.
- 01Known wallet addresses associated with the target
- 02The blockchain(s) and token types involved
- 03Context: divorce, fraud, dispute, or due diligence
- 04Any prior transaction records or statements
- 05Names of individuals or entities suspected of controlling the assets
- 06The legal objective: recovery, disclosure, or evidence
Typical obstacles
Every case faces friction. Understanding the obstacles upfront sets realistic expectations for what recovery can achieve.
- —Assets moved through multiple wallets to obscure current location
- —Use of mixers or privacy tools before final storage
- —Assets held in cold storage with no on-chain movement
- —Control split across multiple jurisdictions and entities
- —Self-custody wallets with no KYC link to a person
- —Assets converted to privacy coins and shielded
Relevant jurisdictions
Digital asset tracing spans blockchains globally, but recovery and disclosure depend on where assets are custodied. Assets at regulated exchanges in the US, UK, EU, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Switzerland are most actionable. We coordinate with local counsel in 75+ jurisdictions for disclosure and recovery where lawful.
HUMINT
Human intelligence operations to obtain evidence that paper trails and on-chain data alone cannot reveal.
OSINT & Forensics
Open-source intelligence and blockchain forensics to trace funds and map infrastructure.
Lawful Operations
All operations conducted within applicable local laws, coordinated with top-tier law firms in each jurisdiction.

Frequently asked questions
What digital assets can you trace?
Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoins (USDT, USDC), and most ERC-20 and major blockchain tokens. We also trace assets moved through bridges, swaps, and cross-chain protocols.
How is digital asset tracing different from blockchain forensics?
Forensics analyzes on-chain data. Tracing goes further by combining forensics with human intelligence to link on-chain activity to real-world beneficiaries — which is what recovery ultimately requires.
Can you trace assets moved to cold storage?
Funds in cold storage can still be observed on-chain. Whether they can be linked to an identifiable holder depends on the case; we assess this during the case assessment.
We offer a confidential case assessment — not a guaranteed recovery promise. Regulators including the FCA and FTC warn consumers about services that guarantee recovery, demand unexplained upfront fees, or impersonate authorities. We charge only on actual recovery.
